Classic City Jazz
About
We are the University of Georgia’s only vocal jazz group. CCJ specializes in jazz styles from swing, ballad, bebop, funk, cool, fusion Latin, and more. We also dabble in contemporary and mainstream music - usually with a nice jazzy twist. CCJ performs at a variety of venues and concerts both on and off campus throughout the year such as private events, public concerts, and jazz jams.
Typically, we meet twice a week for an hour and a half each rehearsal. The weekly rehearsal schedule is determined after auditions, as we try to find times in which all of our members are available.
Classic City Jazz has been at UGA for over ten years. We were initially started by a music staff member in UGA's Choral program, Mitos Andaya. She has since left the university, but CCJ continues on. We are now a student-run Jazz group. We are made up of students from majors all across campus, but we come together to perform Jazz. Many of our members had never sung Jazz prior to joining this group. But all of us have found a love for the music we sing. You are welcome to contact us with interest in joining the group at any time!
Our Fall 2024 auditions will be planned some time in August, follow our Instagram for updates: @ugaccj
