Farmers Market Friends
About
The purpose of this club is to raise awareness of and improve ease of access to the Athens Farmers Market and the Farm RX Program to the citizens of Athens-Clarke County. This is accomplished through fundraising (including, but not limited to, grant writing), incentivizing volunteering from UGA students, spreading information on campus & through social media, and providing useful tips and details on the benefits of healthy eating and the science involved in malnutrition, a common cause of many health issues experienced by low-income Athens residents. Farmers Market Friends hosts events and performs direct community outreach in order to accomplish the goal of making Athens a better place to live. This includes implementing "Farm to Campus" farmers markets, which accept Paw Points for produce and gives students the opportunity to run a food system. The club works directly with the farmers market and the coordinator of the Farm RX program in order to effectively fulfill their needs.
